Willis Harold O'Brien was an American pioneer in motion picture special effects and stop-motion animation. He won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for his work on Mighty Joe Young (1949), and is best known for his contributions to The Lost World (1925) and King Kong (1933).
Now known to the world as the man who created Kong, O’Brien is synonymous as a legend among horror, dinosaur and animation fans. In 1950 he received a special Oscar for his work on Mighty Joe Young. Willis O’Brien passed away in November of 1962.
