   What is the history of Bainbridge Island?

   • The island was named after Commodore William Bainbridge, commander of the frigate USS Constitution in the War of 1812. Bainbridge Island was the home of the Suquamish Indian Tribe, led by Chief Kitsap. In 1855, the tribe ceded Bainbridge Island to the U.S. Government.
