Theater actress Stella Parish (Kay Francis) becomes a success working in England with an attentive producer (Paul Lukas). However, Stella must flee to the United States because of a secret from her past. Journalist Keith Lockridge (Ian Hunter) tracks Stella down on a ship and discovers that she spent time in prison.
