Tommy Fairchild was a singer and musician in Southern Gospel for many years. He briefly sang baritone for the Florida Boys in 1957. He was also the pianist for the Oak Ridge Boys and the Blackwood Brothers.
As a result of more personnel changes, the group lost its tenor, so they lowered their arrangements and had Gatlin sing tenor, while the pianist, Tommy Fairchild, sang lead. They recorded an album for Cadence Records , then in 1958, they hired Willie Wynn to sing the tenor part, and Fairchild moved back exclusively to the piano.
Thomas Duane Fairchild is a pianist and singer who has won 10 Grammy awards and played with various gospel groups. He was born in Florida in 1936 and married Judith Ann in 1980.
The 1970s and 1980s lineup with Pat Hoffmaster, Jimmy Blackwood, Cecil Blackwood, Ken Turner and Tommy Fairchild had the Blackwood Brothers' biggest hit with "Learning To Lean". At the 22nd Annual Grammy Awards in 1980 they won another Grammy for Lift Up the Name of Jesus in the Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance, Traditional category.
