Following the death of John McCain in 2018, Kyl briefly returned to the Senate; his resignation led to the appointment of Martha McSally in 2019.

Jon Kyl (b. April 25, 1942) is a former Republican member of the U.S. Senate from the state of Arizona. He served from 1995 to 2013 and again in 2018, after Sen. John McCain (R) passed away. On September 4, 2018, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) announced that he would appoint Kyl to replace McCain who passed away from cancer on August 25.
