May 17, 2019 · Perched on a small hill overlooking the River Dee, the castle complex of Chester today is much changed from its original motte-and-bailey construction. But it still provides a brilliant vantage point over the river and racecourse and, each time I visit, I close my eyes and imagine being a prisoner inside the stone walls.
