Orson Pratt Sr. (September 19, 1811 – October 3, 1881) was an American religious leader and mathematician who was an original member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Christ (Latter Day Saints).
Ordained a High Priest on Feb 22 1832. Ordained an Apostle in 1835 and held that position until he died in Salt Lake City, Oct 3, 1881. In the 1847 Brigham Young Company, Orson was part of the 1st Company of Ten led by Wilford Woodruff.
Mar 28, 2008 · As a missionary, editor, pioneer, and pamphleteer, he was one of the most influential leaders of the Church in the nineteenth century. Pratt was born September 19, 1811, at Hartford, Washington County, New York.

Orson Pratt was born in Hartford, New York. He was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by his brother Parley in September 1830. That December he was ordained an elder and appointed to serve a mission to Colesville, New York. In 1831, he moved to Kirtland, Ohio.

In the land of his ancestors Orson preached the gospel of Jesus Christ and made significant literary contributions, particularly as the editor of the Millennial Star. In 1852 Orson was the first Church leader to publicly announce the doctrine of plural marriage.
Orson Pratt of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles authored the earliest published account of Joseph’s First Vision of Deity in this pamphlet in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1840. Pratt was called to the Quorum in 1835, at age 23.
Orson Pratt: Apostle, Missionary, Theologian of the Restoration. Late in Orson’s life, his fellow Apostle Wilford Woodruff observed, “If there is any man that has travelled more miles in preaching the gospel of Christ, … I do not know who he is.”
