Saturday Night Live began its thirty-third season on September 27, 2007, and ended it on May 18, 2008. This season lasted during the 2007-2008 Writer's Guild of America Strike. This season was the shortest of them all, containing only 12 episodes.
This season was the final one of Maya Rudolph, and the first for Casey Wilson, who joined after the strike ended.
The writer's strike assured this would be the first (and, as of 2020, only) season without any holiday-themed episodes, as the strike spanned the holiday season.
During this season, former SNL announcer Mel Brandt (who replaced Don Pardo on Season 7) died on March 14, 2008 at the age of 88.
