The Dominican House of Studies is a school of theological training for the Dominican friars of the Province of St. Joseph. For centuries, religious and laity have been formed in the sapiential wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas.
The house is dedicated to the theological formation of Dominican friars and the service of the church in the Archdiocese of Washington. It serves as a formation community for Dominican candidates for holy orders and the Dominican cooperator brotherhood. It is also the location of the Thomistic Institute and the academic journal The Thomist.
As a Dominican community dedicated to prayer, preaching, and sacred study, the House of Studies provides intellectual, spiritual, and pastoral support to the local church of Washington and beyond.

The priory and the faculty recently passed milestone anniversaries: 100 years of Dominican life in 2005, and 75 years of pontifical teaching in 2016. For over 110 years now, the House of Studies has been a seedbed of Dominican grace.
In 2012 the Province completed construction on the new Saint Dominic Priory in St. Louis, Missouri; the new Priory, which can house up to 50 friars, is the House of Studies for the Central and Southern Provinces.
