Dear John is a 2010 American romantic war drama film directed by Lasse Hallström, based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. It follows the life of a soldier ( Channing Tatum ) after he falls in love with a young woman ( Amanda Seyfried ).
Ending Explained. In the ending of "Dear John," Savannah marries another man due to John's extended military service. Years later, John visits Savannah, who reveals that her husband has died from cancer. Although they still love each other, she asks John to stay away for the sake of her children.
Unfortunately, after the events of 9/11, John is asked to extend his time in the military, leaving Savannah in a state of despair. She conveys to John via a letter that she has moved on and found somebody else, leaving John in emotional turmoil.
