Known locally as Stachus, Karlsplatz is a square located in the heart of Munich built in the 18th century after the Medieval city wall was demolished.
The well-known Karlsplatz and the Karlstor are forming the western end of the pedestrian zone which leads to Marienplatz. Karlstor gate on Stachus square is one of the three remaining gates in Munich’s city walls, which were torn down at the end of the 18th century.
