NASA policy allows grantee-initiated first time no-cost extensions (NCEs) of up to 12 months. Grantees may use the form at https://www.nssc.nasa.gov/nocostextension to request NCEs. PIs at Government labs should contact their program officer directly.
May 29, 2024 · A No- Cost Extension (NCE) can extend the project period of performance if the project has encountered any delays (i.e supply- chain issues, pandemics or other issues that hinder your ability to complete the project on time). An NCE does not include any additional funds.
If you are at the end of the basic period of performance for your grant, you are entitled to one (1) automatic no-cost extension . If your grant begins with NNG (as in NNGnnxxnnG) you should have your sponsored programs office send a notice indicating that they have elected a one-year extension to: NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center
For this purpose, the recipient may make a one-time no-cost extension, not to exceed 12 months, prior to the established expiration date. Written notification of such an extension, with the supporting reasons, must be received by the NASA Grant Officer at least ten days prior to the expiration of the award.
Requests for approval shall include a justification for exceeding five years and evidence that the extended years can be reasonably priced. Requests for approval are not required when the five-year limitation is exceeded due to a no cost extension.
In most cases (of a grant or a cooperative agreement with a nonprofit entity) you can get your first no-cost extension of the award's expiration date for up to 12 months automatically by just asking for it before the end of the period of performance.
Step 1: Go to NSSC Services. Step 2: Select “Grants / Cooperative Agreements” in the Procurement Services. Step 3: Select “Request a No Cost Extension from the left hand column for “Grants”. Step 4: Complete the required information and then “Submit to NSSC”.
