The Russian Criminal Code (Russian: Уголовный кодекс Российской Федерации, frequently abbreviated УК РФ) is the prime source of the Law of the Russian Federation concerning criminal offences. The 1996 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (UGKRF) came into force on 1 January 1997.
The criminal Law of the Russian Federation consists of the present Code. New laws providing for criminal responsibility are subject to inclusion in the present Code.
The procedure for criminal court proceedings, established by this Code, is obligatory for courts, prosecutor's offices, preliminary investigation and inquiry bodies, as well as for other participants in the criminal court proceedings.
