With roots in disco, the house uses a similar beat and song structure but combines it with electronic elements, samples, and synthesizers. Over time the sound would transform and morph into a wide range of subgenres from deep to energetic.
- Make a drum beat. We’ll start by setting our audio editing software’s tempo to 125 BPM. Add KOMPLETE KONTROL to a MIDI track, and in the file browser navigate your way to where the TIMELESS GLOW expansion is located.
- Compose a lead line. Our lead line for this track is going to be very simple, and is going to focus more on accentuating the track’s syncopated rhythm rather than involved melody.
- Add a bass line. On a new MIDI track, add another Kontakt 7. Again load up the FEEL IT instrument, and this time select the Bass > Basic Batch preset.

House music was pioneered by African American DJs and producers in Chicago as part of the underground club culture in the city that started as early as the 1970s. It began when DJs began altering disco records to give them more of a mechanical beat that was easier to dance to.
In its most typical form, the genre is characterized by repetitive 4/4 rhythms including bass drums, off-beat hi-hats, snare drums, claps, and/or snaps at a tempo of between 120 and 130 beats per minute (bpm); synthesizer riffs; deep basslines; and often, but not necessarily, sung, spoken or sampled vocals.
