The above ebook has a link to the map I created with all of the stops that I did on my last trip. It is a great resources for planning your trip along PCH since the stops are already added to the map for you.

Here are a few of my favorite places for food on Pacific Coast Highway. 1. The Crab Cooker in Newport – Fresh shrimp cocktails and seafood. Review here 2. Schooner or Later in Long Beach- A great stop for breakfast, get there early as the wait can be long. Order “The Mess”. Review here 3. Neptune’s Net in Malibu – Seafood sampler and tacos with opt...

This is not a definitive list of where to stay but here are some of the great state parks you can camp in (arranged from South to North) and hotels at the end.

Construction of the Pacific Coast Highway, California State Highway 1, started in the 1920’s as a planned 1,400-mile link between the Mexican and Canadian borders. The road now runs nearly continuously from San Juan Capistrano in Orange County in the south to United States Highway 101 near Leggett in Mendocino County in the north. The highway might...

    • Start in San Francisco. Ahhh, SF, my favorite city; although technically I’m biased because I chose to move to the city by the bay from NYC a few years ago. 😉
    • Half Moon Bay (45 minutes from SF) Your first official stop on your California coast road trip (unless you wanna make a few stops in Pacifica/Pescadero – I’ve got a whole road trip guide from San Francisco to Santa Cruz here)!
    • Santa Cruz (1 hour from Half Moon Bay) Drive a bit further on Highway 1 and you’ll reach Santa Cruz, where I suggest stopping for a few hours. Walk on the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, ride the Giant Dipper and/or the Ferris Wheel right on the beach, and stop for a snack or two (churros and funnel cake are my favorites).
    • Monterey/Carmel-by-the-Sea (45 minutes from Santa Cruz) Next up on our Pacific Coast Highway road trip – Monterey and Carmel! California is just full of sweet little seaside towns, and this area, despite being rather touristy, is definitely one to stop at.
    • San Francisco to Mendocino. Driving Time: 4 hours. Stops: Muir Woods, Point Reyes, Sea Ranch, Point Arena Lighthouse, Mendocino.
    • Mendocino to Pacifica. Driving Time: 5 hours. Stops: Fort Bragg, Gualala, Jenner, Bodega Bay, Stinson Beach, Pacifica. On the next day of your Pacific Coast Highway road trip, we’ll briefly head north to Fort Bragg for a walk on its famous Glass Beach before backtracking down the North Coast of California, stopping off in a few places we skipped yesterday.
    • Pacifica to Monterey. Driving Time: 2 1/2 hours. Stops: Moss Beach, Half Moon Bay, Pescadero, Santa Cruz, Capitola, Monterey.
    • Monterey to Cambria. Driving Time: 3 hours. Stops: Pebble Beach & 17 Mile Drive, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Point Lobos, Bixby Creek Bridge, Pfeiffer Beach, Mcway Fall, San Simeon, Cambria.
    • San Francisco. Days 1-4. San Francisco is one of my favourite cities on earth – it’s a place where you can’t help but feel inspired, stoking the vibes of its counter-cultural history and forward-thinking nerve.
    • Santa Cruz. Days 4-6. Santa Cruz is famed for its surf and hippy culture, as well as the iconic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It has oodles of surf, beaches, redwood-covered mountains and a laid-back youthful vibe.
    • Monterey Peninsula. Days 6-8. The Monterey Peninsula was one of the places that most surprised me on our trip. I wasn’t expecting the sheer beauty of it, especially along the 17-mile drive that links Pacific Grove and Carmel.
    • Big Sur. Days 8-9. The Big Sur coastline is what I dreamed of when planning this trip. This section of the California coast drive is one of the most scenic roads in the world, and one you can’t help but be awed by.
  2. 6 days ago · It’s hard to beat the views of road-tripping along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). It’s one of the most scenic drives in the world. The PCH (also called State Route 1, Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway) runs 655.8 miles between Orange County and Mendocino County, and this guide takes you up the entire coast.

  3. Because we know this route so well, we wanted to create this comprehensive guide for iconic stops and places to see along the entire length of the Pacific Coast Highway, all 1,700-ish miles between Seattle, Washington and Orange County, California!
