Before the meal ends, a Matewan union leader named Sephus escorts Joe to a restaurant owned by C. E. Lively. There, he is interrogated to prove he is not a spy. The miners claim their lives are at stake, and blame “scabs” for defeating the strike.
In 2000, Maggie was one of the producers of Girlfight (2000), the award-winning first feature made by Karyn Kusama (who began her film career on Sayles/Renzi production teams). However, Maggie says she is not planning to produce other non-Sayles films.
