Elder Bernice Albertine King was born on March 28, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia, the youngest daughter to the late civil rights leaders Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Coretta Scott King. King was only five years old when her father was assassinated in Memphis in 1968.
Through her work at The King Center, Dr. King educates youth and adults about the nonviolent principles modeled by her parents. In 2012, she implemented the Camp N.O.W. Leadership Academy which has engaged youth from New Mexico, South Carolina, Michigan, Alabama, and as far away as the Island of Cyprus.

In 1990, she was the first official graduate of a joint degree receiving her masters of Divinity and J.D. degrees from Emory Candler School of Theology and Emory University Law School. She has also received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Wesley College.
The only child of Martin Luther King, Jr., to take up the ministry as a profession, Bernice has often been compared to her father. Andrew Young alleged that watching Bernice “makes you believe preaching is hereditary” (Cleage, “Bernice King Carries It On”). Bernice, however, has her own goals.
