Gottfried Reinhold Treviranus (4 February 1776, Bremen – 16 February 1837, Bremen) was a German physician, naturalist, and proto-evolutionary biologist. His younger brother, Ludolph Christian Treviranus (1779–1864), was also a naturalist and botanist, and also a notable taxonomist and zoologist .
On 30 June 1934, Treviranus escaped the Night of the Long Knives. While in exile, he recalled that after lunch, a large number of police and SS men entered his house. His father answered their request to see "Treviranus". Their target and his daughter were playing tennis in the garden when she cried out "front of house full of Nazis!"

Oct 4, 2017 · Goffried Reinhold Treviranus (1776–1837) did not have a brilliant academic career. Coming from a humble family, he was led to the study of medicine chiefly by financial considerations. He began his studies at Göttingen in 1793, where he also attended lectures on mathematics and natural science.
