Jan Mayen (Urban East Norwegian: [jɑn ˈmɑ̀ɪən]) [1] is a Norwegian volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean with no permanent population. It is 55 km (34 mi) long (southwest-northeast) and 373 km 2 (144 sq mi) in area, partly covered by glaciers (an area of 114.2 km 2 (44.1 sq mi) around the Beerenberg volcano).

Jan Mayen is a volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean located at the border of the Norwegian Sea and the Greenland Sea. The single island covers an area of 377 square kilometres (146 sq mi) and is dominated by the 2,277-metre (7,470 ft) tall Beerenberg volcano.
Expedition Jan Mayen. We – Aurora Expeditions and Rolf Stange – have done four expeditions to Jan Mayen from 2014 to 2017. In three out of these four expeditions, groups have been able to reach the peak of Beerenberg.

Oct 15, 2014 · Jan Mayen, the most northerly island along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, is one of them. As a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow on a Lindblad Expeditions adventure into the High Arctic, I had an amazing opportunity to visit this remote volcanic island spilling five glaciers into the Arctic Ocean on July 6, 2014.
The Jan Mayen class is a class of offshore patrol vessels used by the Norwegian Coast Guard. The Coast Guard first announced plans for the class in September 2016, to increase their capability to patrol Norway's expansive coastal waters, and to replace the ageing Nordkapp-class vessels .
