John de Lancie is an American actor, stand-up comedian, director, producer, writer, singer, musician, and voice artist. In My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, he provides the voice of Discord.

de Lancie's character Discord was inspired by his character Q from the 1987 television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Initially, Lauren Faust wanted to cast someone who could impersonate de Lancie, but Hasbro suggested casting de Lancie himself. Ironically, de Lancie has stated in an interview that, in preparation for his role as Discord, he did not draw from his past experience as Q.

de Lancie mentioned during a 2013 convention panel that his voice recordings of Discord are sped up and lose their deep bass sound. According to Jim Miller in The Art of Equestria, de Lancie's sessions are always done by phone, but his first session as Discord was videotaped.

Outside My Little Pony, de Lancie's professional voice credits include Eagleton in Batman: The Animated Series, Dr. Benton Quest in The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, Sinestro in Duck Dodgers, Agent Darkbootie in Invader ZIM, Mister Twister in Young Justice, and Brainiac in Justice League Action.

In live-action, de Lancie is well-known for his portrayals of Frank Simmons on Stargate SG-1 and Donald Margolis on Breaking Bad. Among his other roles are Eugene Bradford in Days of Our Lives, Janos Bartok in Legend, Odin in Charmed, himself in Greek, Allen Shapiro in Torchwood: Miracle Day, and various supporting roles in The Six Million Dollar Man, The Outer Limits, The West Wing, and The Closer.

Alongside Faust and Tara Strong, de Lancie was executive producer for the 2012 documentary Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony, in which he was not only interviewed but also voiced an original character based on his likeness for some animated interstitials shown throughout the film.
