Apr 18, 2020 · This large "C" shape roll top desk is mahogany, dating from about 1910, and signed by famous maker, "John Wanamaker of New York and Philadelphia." Quality is exceptional throughout. The restored deep finish is in excellent condition on this antique library or office furniture.

DESCRIPTION: A high grade John Wannamaker/Philadelphia roll-top desk in the Arts and Crafts taste. The roll top opening to expose numerous pigeonholes and shelves along with the writing board. The rectilinear case resting on four five brass cupped castors. The locks bearing the Wanamaker imprint.

John Wanamaker (July 11, 1838 – December 12, 1922) was an American merchant and religious, civic and political figure, considered by some to be a proponent of advertising and a "pioneer in marketing". He served as United States Postmaster General in the Benjamin Harrison administration from 1889 to 1893.
