Kenyon's sports teams, which compete in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC), were referred to as the Lords and Ladies until May 2022 when a new mascot, the Owls, was announced. Feb 21, 2022 · Last year, students came to me with concerns about Kenyon’s athletics monikers, the Lords and Ladies. We had recently updated Kenyon’s mission statement, which had not yet evolved to capture the values that have united generations of Kenyon students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The “Lords” and “Ladies” mascots have a long history at Kenyon, dating back to at least the 1950s for “Lords” and the early 1970s for “Ladies.” But in both cases, the names are a nod to the connections between the College and its earliest benefactors, including Lord Kenyon, Lord Gambier, and Lady Rosse.
