New International Version. Ahaz King of Judah. 16 In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah began to reign. 2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years.
Ahaz, apostate from the Mosaic faith and lacking both courage and ingenuity, in such exigencies did not shrink from breaking Mosaic Law to seek help from foreign kings and—what turned out to be the ultimate disaster—from foreign gods as well.
Ahaz was 20 when he became king of Judah and reigned for 16 years. Ahaz is portrayed as an evil king in the Second Book of Kings (2 Kings 16:2). In Edwin R. Thiele 's opinion, Ahaz was co-regent with Jotham from 736/735 BC, and his sole reign began in 732/731 and ended in 716/715 BC. [4] .
