He worked with the likes of The Isley Brothers, Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, and also made his mark on the neo-soul scene by co-writing Maxwell’s hit Sumthin’ Sumthin, taken from his 1996 debut album Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite.

We are extremely sad to report that Leon Ware, a past SoulTracks Lifetime Achievement Award winner, has died at age 77 of prostate cancer. Born and raised in Detroit, Ware joined Motown in the late 60s and by the early 70s was one of that label's key writers - often at the expense of his own singing career.
