More intriguing for behind-the-scenes gossip than its rather familiar screwball comedy machinations, Libeled Lady pairs that debonair fast-talking duo from the Thin Man films (William Powell and Myrna Loy) so they can engage in what they do best: sly innuendo, sarcastic digs, and verbose lovemaking.
With Jean Harlow, William Powell, Myrna Loy, Spencer Tracy. When a socialite sues a big paper for libel, the editor responsible calls in the help of his ignored fiancée and a former employee to frame her and make the false story seem true.

Libeled Lady is a 1936 American screwball comedy film directed by Jack Conway and starring Jean Harlow, William Powell, Myrna Loy and Spencer Tracy. It was written by George Oppenheimer, Howard Emmett Rogers, Wallace Sullivan, and Maurine Dallas Watkins.
'Libeled Lady' is fast-paced, with lots of good moments concerning the plot around a newspaper - a would-be marriage - an heiress - a boat - and some great over-the-top scenes. Highly recommended!

Aside from one broad slapstick set-piece, a dated Chinese valet and Tracy's competent but uninspired performance, everything works.
