Maurice, Count of Saxony (German: Hermann Moritz von Sachsen, French: Maurice de Saxe; 28 October 1696 – 20 November 1750) was a notable soldier, officer and a famed military commander of the 18th century.

Maurice de Saxe was the illegitimate son of Augustus II of Saxony; he embarked on a career in the Imperial army when he was twelve years’ old. In 1720 he obtained a commission in the French army, in which he served for the rest of his life. He became famous for his exploits at the Battles of Fontenoy (1745), Rocourt (1746) and Lawfeld (1747).
In recognition of his services Louis XV gave him life tenure of the castle of Chambord and (1747) the title of marshal general. His 'Mes Rêveries' (1757) is a remarkable work on the art of war. Maurice de Saxe was notorious for his amorous exploits and for his tragic liaison with Adrienne Lecouvreur.
