  5. Newnham College is a women's constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college was founded in 1871 by a group organising Lectures for Ladies, members of which included philosopher Henry Sidgwick and suffragist campaigner Millicent Garrett Fawcett. It was the second women's college to be founded at Cambridge, following Girton College.

  6. Margaret Anstee - 1926-2016. Dame Margaret Anstee, the first female Under-Secretary General of the United Nations, and Newnham alumna. Margaret Anstee was born in Essex in 1926. Her parents, having had very little access to secondary education themselves, were determined that their daughter would have the best education they could manage.
