NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts on the following frequencies across the country. SAME Alert Tests are normally conducted each Wednesday between 10 and and Noon (typically around 11 am) and again between 6 pm and 8 pm (typically around 7 pm).
NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office. NWR broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Coastal stations broadcast predicted tides and real time observations from buoys and coastal meteorological stations operated by the National Data Buoy Center. Based on user demand, where feasible, NWS also broadcasts Offshore and Open Lake forecasts.
The United States' NWS, Canada's Weatheradio, Mexico's SARMEX and Bermuda operate their government weather radio stations on the same marine VHF radio band, using FM transmitters, and the same seven frequencies (162.400 – 162.550 MHz) as NOAA Weather Radio (NWR).
The broadcasts can be heard on special weather radio receivers programmed to pick up frequencies between 162.400 and 162.550 MHz, and on scanners with a special weather band. Weather radios can be purchased at most electronic stores and average between $20 and $70.
