Director Don Owen was originally commissioned to film a short documentary about probation officers, but decided instead to create a full length feature that focused on a troubled teen... and he was allowed the meager sum of $75,000 to do so.

It is very "Canadian" and depicts Toronto at a time when it was still basically a WASP city (before Yorkville). Note that actors Peter and Julie have the same name as their characters.
