Richard Whiteley joined the Museum in October 2019 as the Senior Program Manager at The Studio, responsible for developing and managing new glassmaking programming. Whiteley has spent his life working with glass, developing a fascination for the material when he began apprenticing in stained glass at the age of 16.

Richard Whiteley became an apprentice in stained glass at the age of sixteen; he holds an undergraduate degree from the School of Art + Design, Australian National University (Glass) and a Master’s degree (MFA, Sculpture) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Earning degrees at the University of Illinois and The Australian National University School of Art in Canberra, Richard Whiteley is one of the most influential figures in contemporary glass -- both as an outstanding artist and as an educator.
