Most Koreans write their name in Japanese in kanji, taken straight from their hanja. They convert the pronunciation of their name and kanafy it and pronounce it that way. Some Koreans just skip the hanja altogether and just write their name in katakana.
If you only know katakana, I suppose you could write their names correctly. However, if a person has a name written in Chinese characters in his/her native language (i.e. a person with Chinese or Korean name), write it with kanji.

Foreign names are typically spelled out phonetically with katakana, so Chris becomes kurisu クリス, Sarah becomes seera セーラ, and Michael becomes maikeru マイケル.
