Tecumseh (/ t ɪ ˈ k ʌ m s ə,-s i / tih-KUM-sə, -suh; c. 1768 – October 5, 1813) was a Shawnee chief and warrior who promoted resistance to the expansion of the United States onto Native American lands.

Tecumseh was the last great Eastern Indian leader. He tried to establish a pan-Indian confederation from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada. He witnessed the destruction of an entire American army in 1793, the destruction of an Indian army in 1794, and died aiding the British during the War of 1812.
