Bachelor of Music, Musicology. Musicology combines a humanistic approach typical of a liberal arts degree, with a focus on communication, critical thinking and listening, and global awareness. Students can choose specialized coursework in music history or ethnomusicology, and work closely with musicology faculty throughout their studies.
Program Requirements (30–36 Credits) Thirty credits and a thesis or 36 credits and no thesis are required for the degree in musicology. Before completing 12 credits, students must pass a test given by the Conservatory of Music in French, German, or another language approved by the assistant director.
Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a U.S. bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution or the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree from an institution in another country that is officially recognized by that country.
To enter, students normally possess an undergraduate degree in music or its equivalent. Learning Outcomes. At the completion of the program, students are expected to: Be able to conduct research in Historical Musicology and/or Ethnomusicology. Demonstrate knowledge of disciplinary history of Historical Musicology and/or Ethnomusicology.
