You can download a building permit for 56 types of simple projects at SJPermits.org. These are projects that either don't need plans OR the plans are reviewed at the time of inspection, such as done for some solar installations and earthquake retrofits.

Starting October 30, 2023, applicants with projects that involve building plan review and that qualify for our ADU Service, Residential Service, or Commercial Service will self-start their application online at SJPermits.org and upload plans to SJePlans.
