Oliver Wolf Sacks was born in Cricklewood, London, England, the youngest of four children born to Jewish parents: Samuel Sacks, a Lithuanian Jewish [6] [7] doctor (died June 1990), [8] and Muriel Elsie Landau, one of the first female surgeons in England (died 1972), [9] who was one of 18 siblings. [10]
