    • Find a hidden beach on Maui. There are many on the island, but my favorite hidden beach on Maui is along the Road to Hana. It’s probably obvious that by now every beach on Maui has been discovered and named.
    • Snorkeling in Maui. You can definitely spend money to take a boat out to Molokini and find incredible snorkeling off the coast of Maui. And you’ll probably see a lot of fish, maybe even a reef shark.
    • Grab some sun and people watch on Kaanapali Beach. You knew this was coming, right? Since every beach on Maui is public, you don’t have to stay at an expensive beach-front hotel to enjoy the famous Kaanapali Beach.
    • Visit a black sand beach in Maui (Honokalani Beach) On the road to Hana, Honokalani Beach is one of the most interesting and incredible beaches in Maui.
    • Maui Friday. “If it’s Friday in Maui, there’s a party going on.” That’s the tagline for Maui Fridays — a rotating calendar of Friday night events. First Fridays are in Wailuku, the second Fridays are in Lahaina, the third Fridays are in Makawao, the fourth Fridays are in Kihei, and the fifth Fridays are on Lana’i.
    • Hiking. Stick to dry land for this free activity. While other islands do have better tropical hikes (and more plentiful waterfalls), Maui has gorgeous hikes that are unique to itself.
    • Snorkeling with turtles. Luckily, one of the best things to do on the island is nearly free. Rent a snorkel set and hit the beaches. Within a short swim of the shore, you’ll be greeted with an underwater experience you don’t get at home.
    • Hula Show at the Cannery Mall. Skip the luau and get your hula on with a free show at the Lahaina Cannery Mall. Every Wednesday and Sunday the mall offers free hula performances.
