With everything in easy reach of the town centre, a visit must include a walk along the River Medway, which actually divides the town and gives it a lot of its charm. The River Medway runs through Tonbridge making it a delightful town to explore. It is a hive of leisure activities, including kayaking and boat hire.

1. Name change. It’s next door to Tunbridge Wells but it’s a separate town, it’s pronounced ‘Tunbridge’ but spelt with an ‘o’, and to make things worse it was called Tunbridge with a ‘u’ until 1870.
