Ben Alder is a character on Netflix's Lost in Space. He was the Deputy Director of Advanced Systems, and he was responsible for discovering Scarecrow.

When an alien ship crashed on Earth, Adler was part of the team that initially investigated the crash site and discovered the robot, which was named Scarecrow. He was part of the team that got the robot to navigate the Resolute to Alpha Centauri to begin colonization.
His wife Amanda and twin sons Willem and Henry settled on Alpha Centauri with the 5th mission, but Adler continues to travel between Earth and Alpha Centauri for his work.
When Scarecrow escaped and began attacking the Resolute, Adler evacuated with the rest of the crew and the colonists.
He had toy robots as a child and dreamed of one day actually talking to real robots. ("Scarecrow")
Adler returned when the Robinsons docked on the Resolute, thinking they needed to be evacuated, but Maureen and John had already confined Scarecrow. Adler then revealed the situation to Maureen and requested Will Robinson's help with Scarecrow since word had gotten around about Will's connection to the Robot on the unknown planet. However, Maureen declined the offer, so Adler incapacitated Scarecrow, where he, Hastings, and a crew tried to get Scarecrow to help them, but his plan fails. Will Robinson then asks Adler if he can help, to which Adler agrees, but Will almost gets hurt. Adler then apologizes to the astonished and infuriated Maureen.
Adler later accompanied Maureen and Will on a mission to the Amber Planet to find the Robot. While he was originally working with Hastings to get the Robot to help them no matter what, he later had a change of heart. After realizing Scarecrow needed to be saved, Adler and Will took him in the Jupiter 2 back to the Amber Planet. In the end, Adler sacrifices himself to save Scarecrow.
