The closure of Radical as a game developer is a sad indictment of the current industry – a place where offbeat brands with decent communities cannot co-exist alongside the monster franchises.
Apparently MLG was in massive debt and would’ve likely gone under sooner if they didn’t step in. It seemed more like a move for Activision Blizzard to get all the infrastructure of the MLG more than anything as MLG slowly decayed after the acquisition.
A more accurate title might be "Radical Entertainment has its doors shut by Activision." It seems pretty clear from everything I've read and heard that members of the studio had nothing to do with the decision to shut down.
Radical Entertainment Inc. is a Canadian video game developer based in Vancouver. The studio is best known for developing The Simpsons: Hit & Run (2003), Scarface: The World Is Yours (2006), Prototype (2009) and Prototype 2 (2012), as well as entries in the Crash Bandicoot franchise.
I dug what Radical did. I played the shit out of Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and both Prototype games. It's a real shame to learn they won't be coming out with anything more.
Basically, the gaming studio has been shut down although it officially still exists. Radical Entertainment’s last game was Prototype 2 and its PC version is slated for a July 27th release.
