Jan 25, 2002 · The Mothman Prophecies. "The Mothman Prophecies" claims to be based on a true story, which sent me racing to the Web for a little research. And, yes, there is a belief among the folks in Point Pleasant, W.Va., that a mothlike creature with red eyes can occasionally be glimpsed in the area.
The Mothman Prophecies is a 2002 American supernatural horror-mystery film directed by Mark Pellington, and starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney. Based on the 1975 book of the same name by parapsychologist and Fortean author John Keel, the screenplay was written by Richard Hatem.

I enjoyed this movie and I loved the premise. The mothman is a cool creature idea and is a very eerie unsettling movie. I just wish it had more horror elements, I wanted a big reveal at the end, a big creature encounter ending.

Some of my favorite bad critiques on Rotten Tomatoes so far. I have to wonder if some of these people thought they were walking into a Spider-Man movie with what they were expecting from Batman’s personality in this movie…
