Based on the 1967 Oscar winner about a small southern town and its bombastic sheriff, who accepts the help of a black detective on a murder case. Twenty years after a woman is gruesomely murdered, a repeat crime of the same style is committed, and Chief Gillespie and Virgil must unravel the mystery.
In The Heat Of The Night. Carroll O'Connor steps into the role of Bill Gillespie, a southern, white sheriff, and Howard Rollins takes on the mantle of Virgil Tibbs, an African American detective, who must put animosity aside to solve crimes in a racially-charged hamlet.
In this two part opener of season 2 a copycat of a most grisly murder takes place in Sparta. In the one in the 60s a young girl was found stabbed to death, hanging on a tree in the woods with her heart cut from her body.
