  1. On November 8, 2011, Synapse Films released Frankenhooker on Blu-ray. This edition has reversible cover art, with the original theatrical poster on one side and newly commissioned artwork on the reverse side.

    • “This was never meant to be a horror film,” says Henenlotter. Apparently he received complaints that the film is so bloodless, but he dismisses the complainers because he set out to make a comedy.
    • The opening brain that Jeffrey (Lorinz) is experimenting on was based on the poster for the movie The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. It doesn’t appear in that film though, so Henenlotter recreated it here.
    • This was Henenlotter’s first SAG film meaning he was using actors who were members of the guild, but he ran into some trouble as the girls the guild was sending were not inclined to do nudity.
    • The hand seen in the opening credits belongs to Henenlotter. Meaning it’s his hand as opposed to a hand he owns.
  2. Frankenhooker is amazing. Frank Henenlotter is one of the kings of masterfully crafted B-movies. One of the few directors that can intentionally make a bad movie but do so in a way that it works completely as a comedic exploitation film. If you liked it definitely check out Brain Damage.

  3. Frank Henenlotter is a different breed of horror filmmaker. He definitely gyrates wildly to his own unique rhythm, instilling a sense of fun-loving absurdity into what would otherwise pass for watered-down psychodramas featuring a bevy of pathetic individuals not unlike myself.
