Meet Owen Marshall CNZM who received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from UC in 2006. Owen Marshall has been described as New Zealand’s best short story writer. Born in Te Kuiti, Owen Marshall was educated at Timaru Boys’ High School and the University of Canterbury where he completed a MA (Hons) in 1964.
In 2000, he became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to literature and in 2012 became a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM). In 2013 Marshall was awarded the Prime Minister's Award for Literary Achievement. Primary publisher.
In 2000 he received the ONZM for Services to Literature in the New Year Honours and the CNZM in the Queen's Birthday Honours of 2012. He received the Prime Minister's Award for Fiction in 2013. He has published or edited 35 books, including novels, short stories and poetry.
