Jul 21, 2024 · The National Theatre of Iceland is a spectacular art deco building in Reykjavik, designed by Gudjon Samuelsson and built in 1950. It houses five separate theaters, including a puppet theater, and is an important part of the Icelandic theater scene.
The former French consulate, called Höfði, was the site of the Reykjavík Summit in 1986.. The Reykjavík Summit was a summit meeting between U.S. President Ronald Reagan and General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, held in Reykjavík, Iceland, on 11–12 October 1986. It houses the offices of the mayor of Reykjavík and a large 3D map of Iceland. The city hall is sometimes used for art exhibitions, functions or live music performances. The building was constructed in 1992 following an international competition won by architects Studio Granda.
