I propose an article which defines the term and discusses it with references to various countries, like Japan. Other countries which could be discussed include Pacifist states like New Zealand which has got rid of a lot of its armed forces.
When you type in an IME, of course, you use the same system the government of Japan (Ministry of Education and others) have officially adopted--the non-macron system. Few papers from Japan itself violate this norm, and certainly it's in very few texts (as opposed to research papers, where it's clearly the minority but not uncommon).

A macron-less "shogi" is one of the specific examples given in MOS:JAPAN#English words of Japanese origin, so I'm not sure how that is changed with respect to "taikyoku shogi". Maybe the simplest solution would be to add a romaji reading to the paranthetical in the first sentence of the article as is done for Shogi, Tokyo, Jujutsu, Judo, etc.
