Pixar Animation Studios (/ ˈ p ɪ k s ɑːr /) is an American animation studio based in Emeryville, California, known for its critically and commercially successful computer-animated feature films. Since 2006, Pixar has been a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, a division of Disney Entertainment, a segment of the Walt Disney Company.
Pixar has produced 28 feature films, which were all released by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures through the Walt Disney Pictures banner, with their first being Toy Story (which was also the first theatrically released CGI-animated feature ever released) on November 22, 1995, and their latest being Inside Out 2 on June 14, 2024.
Disney and Pixar announce an agreement “to make and distribute at least one computer-generated animated movie.” Pixar begins work on the project that will become Toy Story, while continuing to produce commercials and other short materials, including spots for public television.
