Born in Newark, N.J., he first appeared professionally in vaudeville at Keith's Theater in Boston and in London music halls. He played with E.H. Sothern in "Hamlet" in 1901 in New York's Garden Theater.
Taylor Holmes, the American stage and film actor, was born in Newark, New Jersey. He made his Broadway debut in February 1900 in the controversial play "Sapho", which was closed down by the New York Police Department for immorality after 29 performances.
