Nick Hart is a struggling American artist who lives amongst the expatriate community in 1920s Paris. He spends most of his time drinking and socializing in local café's and pestering gallery owner Libby Valentin to sell his paintings.
In this fanciful history of the expatriate-littered Paris of the 1920s, painter Nick Hart mingles with Ernest Hemingway and other leading lights of the Lost Generation. His paintings prove unpopular, so he supports himself by caricatures until an offer to engage in forgery becomes to good to refuse.
