Cadwallader Colden Washburn (April 22, 1818 – May 14, 1882) was an American businessman, politician, and soldier who founded a mill that later became General Mills. A member of the Washburn family of Maine, he was a U.S. congressman and governor of Wisconsin, and served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Civil War Union Major General, US Congressman, Wisconsin Governor. A successful Wisconsin lawyer, in 1855, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fourth, Thirty-fifth, and Thirty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1861.
He was a commissioned a Colonel in the Civil War, fighting in numerous battles including the Battle of Vicksburg. In 1865, he retired with the rank of Major General and settled in La Crosse, where he was once more elected to Congress.
