  4. THE PAPER CHASE opens in an empty classroom that slowly fills with eager, nervous students. It's their very first day at Harvard Law school, and the brilliant Professor Kingsfield (played by the brilliant John Houseman) lets them know they shouldn't expect an easy ride.

  5. Low-key, and nostalgic in its view of education, "The Paper Chase" is a good film to watch for its high technical quality, for its theme of the individual trying to measure up to society's expectations, and of course for the wonderful performance of John Houseman.

  6. The Paper Chase has some great performances, literate screenwriting, sensitive direction and handsome production. Timothy Bottoms is excellent as the puzzled law student, Lindsay Wagner is very good as his girl, and John Houseman, the veteran legit and film producer-director-writer, is outstanding as a hard-nosed but urbane law professor.
